Getting to Know Mr. Johnson
I am originally from South Bend, IN, so naturally I am a Notre Dame fan. However, I have lived most of my life in Southern California. I am married to my lovely wife Tammy, and we have a 3 year old son named Liam. He is the most amazing little guy I know. I'm sure you'll hear a lot about him this year.
I have an older sister who lives in Illinois with her husband and daughter. She is studying to be a nurse. I also have a younger brother who lives in Tennessee with his wife and daughter and he is a hair stylist.
I graduated from Mission Viejo High School and went on to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in art from Azusa Pacific University (APU). After graduating from APU I substitute taught for a year in Covina and Glendora school districts while working on my credential at APU. In 1999 I was hired at Workman Elementary as a second grade teacher. I taught two years of second grade before moving up to third grade, which I taught for seven years. I then moved to fifth grade in 2008. In 2005 I earned a Masters degree in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. I am excited to begin a new year of learning and growth in room 20 home of the "Fightin' Irish". I love working with technology and am looking forward to using it in the classroom to enhance my daily instruction.
When I am not teaching I love being outdoors rock climbing, surfing, hiking, or just relaxing in the backyard. Every summer I love to go on extended backpacking trips and sleep under the stars. I also enjoy working on our new house and seeing it transform as each project is finished. Now, most (all) of my spare time is spent being a father. Liam is all over the place and growing so fast.
